In the last days of April, Forwardis was called upon to organize the transport of buses donated by the Île-de-France Region to be delivered in Kyiv on the 25th of May. Together with @UZ Cargo Poland and our partners, we succeeded in the challenge of delivering this special cargo within 3 weeks, dealing with many constraints and a tight schedule.
Following our first bus transport in December 2025 using conventional wagons, this second operation employed a different technology: vertical loading with R2L platforms on low-bed intermodal wagons. This solution proved better suited to our specific requirements and offers significant operational advantages. Notably, it streamlines bus handling operations at any multimodal terminal, eliminating the need for a loading ramp and reducing resource requirements.
On the evening of May 18th, the loading of 30 buses with R2L was done in #France in the terminal of #Dourges. The train left Dourges early morning on the next day, operated successively by Hexafret through France, ITL through Germany, and Captrain Polska through Poland. In Zamosc, UZ Cargo Polska took over the operation, calling upon PKP LHS for the transloading from standard gauge to 1520mm wagons and for traction up to the Ukrainian border. The 30 buses arrived in Kyiv on time on May 25th.
The rail transport of buses on R2L platforms was a first in France and remains uncommon in other countries. This pioneering operation required close attention to numerous technical and operational points, all addressed seamlessly through strong coordination with our partners and the Rail Logistics Europe network.
Our agility and responsiveness played a decisive role in this exceptional operation, delivered under a particularly tight schedule. This project reflects our commitment to finding the right transport solutions and technical approaches for complex rail freight challenges.
